Setting Up your Classes FAQ's
Setting Up the System Writing Assessments

What happens if I can't get my system to recognize clicker A in the set up process?

You will need to check all of the cables to make sure they are securly connected-often times it's simply a matter of the receptor dish not being fully plugged in. If this doesn't work, you should contact Kiffany or Chris for help.

Which sort of assessment mode is "best"?

For formal assessments, like tests and quizzes, it is best to use the student managed assessments since it discourages cheating. Each student has their own copy of the test and puts in their answers at their own pace.

When should I use the teacher assessment mode?

For assessments during class-for example, a quick "understanding check" or for the review game. These are often times referred to as "assessments for learning" or "informal assessments". The clicker systems can be most powerful here in that they allow you to assess every student in your class everyday! You will know right away how many of your kids "get" what you're trying to teach that day.

How much information do I have to put in when I input my classes?

As much as you wish! The absolute necessity is a title-I would also recommend titling each class with a period and name. As for each student, you should input their first and last name as well as their pad ID. You do not have to input their student numbers in order for the system to work well.

Can I use other teachers' lessons?

Yes, you can! We will be leading another training soon after the start of the school year to show you how to do this. It will save you time-and is a great way to work cooperatively with other teachers who teach the same subject.

What sort of support is available to help me?

Kiffany Lychock and Chris Bell are the "in building" experts-they can help you with most problems. Jeanne Sadowski, Jeff Gale and Bill Bradley may be needed to help install software as they have the administrator passwords. Please follow proper procedure when asking them for help as they are wonderful people-but also very busy! :-) If you need immediate help, eInstruction has a technical support line. The number and all sorts of great clicker information can be found at www.einstruction.com.
